Project RED II - From Research to Results

There is a national buzz around the Project RED findings. Project RED II will operationalize the findings from the original research. The goal is to create a cadre of schools and districts who will integrate Project RED findings into their practices. The staff and sites will be supported through a myriad of resources conferences and consultancies to help guide their success. Those interested may apply for Project RED certification status.

Iowa 1to1 Institute
April 11, 2012
On April 11, 2012, the Iowa 1to1 Institute (i11i) will be held in Des Moines, Iowa, from 9 am-4 pm at the Iowa Events Center. This will be the third year of the conference which has grown from 600 participants in year one to 1300 last year.
The purposes of the conference have remained the same since the initial conference:
• Help Iowa’s 1:1 districts learn from each other about innovative teaching, learning, and administrative practices that are occurring in their districts;
• Build excitement and ‘buzz’ around 1:1 laptop computing initiatives in the state; and
• Help others who are interested in 1:1 computing learn more about how to get started and be successful.

From 9am to 4pm on April 4, 2013, the fourth annual Iowa 1:1 Institute (i11i) will be held at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines. The purposes of the institute are to:
Help Iowa’s 1:1 districts learn from each other about innovative teaching, learning, and administrative practices that are occurring in their districts;
Build excitement and ‘buzz’ around 1:1 laptop computing initiatives in the state; and
Help others who are interested in 1:1 computing learn more about how to get started and be successful.
The institute is open to anyone interested in 1:1 laptop computing initiatives in P-12 schools, whether they currently are working in such a program or just want to learn more. Participants are responsible for their own travel, parking, and meal expenses (we’ll take a lunch break!).

Western States K-12 Customer Exchange Group

The feedback from our inaugural session of the Western States K-12 Customer Exchange Group was overwhelingly positive. For thos who attended, thank you for taking the time to participate in the discussion on the Flipped Learning teaching model. For those of you who missed our first gathering, this next session promises to be equally as thought provoking.
Many districts across the country are implementing, piloting, or considering a 1:1 laptop program, or a way to leverage the device the student already has through Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) initiatives. On May 8, we will reconvene to learn about best practices with the 1:1 approach. We are honored to have Leslie Wilson, founding member of the One-to-One Institute join us to talk about 1:1 programs. The One-to-One Institute provides comprehensive progressional learning and development program templates for teachers, administrators, and technology personnel to ensure success around organizations’ goals. Wilson will share with us what she has learned and lead us in a discussion of what works and what to watch out for.
Wilson has a master’s degree in instructional technology from Wayne State University, a special education administrator certification from Eastern Michigan University, and a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Michigan.
